Types of Pocket Coil Mattresses
There are three main types of pocket-coil mattresses you can choose from:
- Tight Top - firm with less cushioning.
- Pillow Top - more cushioning added.
- Euro Top - even more cushioning added.
Tight Top (Plush) Mattresses
Tight top mattresses are “tight” on the top and don’t have a lot of padding added.
Tight tops are great for back sleepers who like a firm bed. They offer plenty of support and are often made from softer materials to make them as comfortable as possible.
If you want a softer version of a tight top mattress look for the “plush” models for added comfort.
Pillow Top Mattresses
Pillow top mattresses have a layer of padding top of the coils that acts like a pillow. This layer can be made of memory foam, latex or gel. Usually pillow top mattresses will have more cushion than tight top mattresses.
Pillow top mattresses are often more expensive than tight top mattresses due to their extra layers of cushioning.
Euro Top Mattresses
Euro top mattresses are similar to a pillow top, but have even more padding added to make them extra fluffy and comfortable. The layers are sewn right to the edge of the mattress so there is no gap in cushioning. As a result they tend to be denser than pillow tops and they retain their shape for longer.
Euro top mattresses are us often more expensive than tight top or pillow top mattresses due to their extra cushioning.
Both pillow top and Euro top mattresses will be taller than tight-top mattresses.
